How to Calculate Flow Rate?

12/19/2010 6:53 AM

Dear members,

If the internal diameter D of a pipe and the pressure P of water flowing through this pipe is given then how can we measure the flow rate of water flowing through this pipe?. I need a equation that show the relation between these three quantities?.

don't confuse pressure with volesity

Please consider these equations: Hazen-Williams, Darcy-Weisbach, and Colebrook. You need a different set of three quantities; in particular the equivalent length of the pipe in question.

Flowrate is not related to pressure. The pressure can be high and a shut valve can make the flowrate zero, for example.

Flowrate through the pipe is related to pressure drop along the pipe by the Darcy-Weisbach generalised flow equation, which requires rather more than two parameters to calculate the flow. Unless the values of these other parameters are known, the quest for a calculated answer for the flowrate will prove fruitless.
