Cold Box's Life Time

12/23/2010 12:04 AM

how many years a fin plate heat exchanger can work or what is the life time for cold boxes.

we have a fin plate heat exchanger which reduce cracking gas temperature up to -126 c". after about 18 years of operation its efficiency is fell down .recently after a shout down its efficiency is low.according manufacturer it is near end of its life.

can somebody help me to find out some information about this regard.

thanks.

Most likely what you have is fouling. From the cooling medium side, minerals from the cooling water, over time, are deposited on the fins/plates. This deposition inhibits heat transfer, causing a degradation of the heat exchanger's efficiency.

It may be that the heat exchanger does need to be replaced. It may be also, that the heat exchanger can be descaled. Concentrate on basic engineering principles while watching the video.

thank you very much we also think that because of shut down some oil came from compressor side and as a fouling raise this problem, but about life time i couldnt find a resource.

It's almost dead--get a new one. And please figure out whether it increases/reduces the gas temperature up to/down to +/- 126°C above/below what it would otherwise be. And if "shouting it down" (such as by yellng at it) is effective, that would be really strange.
