We need more context. There are probably some interesting concepts that could be developed on iterative heat transfer. For instance, the Stirling cycle depends on it, as would heat balances in any engine.

(Presuming we are not talking about insulating tiles on the Space Shuttle.)

Well, it could be a problem caused by damage to the vehicle's re-entry shield.
