Stepper Motor Application

Hi

I have an application where a saddle mounted on a lead screw and equipped with cutting blade is required to move linearly to required distance. I plan to use stepper motor to drive the screw to achive linear travel. However the linear travel is not supposed to be continuous and must stop for a few seconds when blade mounted on the saddle does the cutting action. When the cutting action is over, saddle travels linearly.

I want to know how to select stepper motor and controls required.

Any vendor offering Stepper Motor in Mumbai?

A stepper motor should be just right for this. With a suitable controller (microprocessor or PLC or computer) you can drive the screw fast until the blade is about to contact the work, slow as the blade traverses the work, and then fast for return. You can program many such steps, with multiple starts, rests, and stops.

You will need to determine how much pressure is needed to drive the blade (or other cutter) into the work, and convert it into required motor torque.

Surely there are vendors in Mumbai. You might even try Googling "stepper motors Mumbai".
