GRP Pipeline

01/19/2011 2:09 AM

hello everyone... while i'm reviewing GRP pipeline document of my plant i came across these sentence. "Pipes are manufactured using either a continuous filament winding process (Flowtite), centrifugal casting (C-Tech), or cross helical winding process (Vectus)". i have searched it on net. but not satisfied. can anybody help me. thanks in advance.

Instead of duplicating this thread hither and yon, it might help to focus on just one thread. The first and third of these processes are just different names for basically the same thing, namely winding a continuous fiberglass filament back and forth along the length of a rotating mandrel, filling in the gaps with plastic resin. I'm not sure about the second, but I suspect that it consists of a slurry of short fiberglass filaments within a liquid matrix of plastic resin, spun rapidly against an outer mold to form a pipe. Just guessing, though.

Cervisia = beer (compare with Sp. cerveza).
Carmen = song (plural carmina, as in "Carmina Burana")

(I adapted this slightly from the slogan of a microbrewery some friends once owned.)

Why does it matter? I think Tornado has given you the basics. I also think that the casual observer, that's you, couldn't tell the difference by looking at the pipes anyway.

If you really want to know, ask the suppliers who make the various types of pipe.
