Here is a set of "tong testers": http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=ie7&q=tong+tester+image&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&rlz=1I7ACEW_enUS408US408

These are also commonly described as "clamp-on" or "clamp-around" ammeters.

However, there is also a U-shaped (or fork-shaped) version which could also be called a "tong tester."

The terminology seems vague and inconsistent. Useless semantics again.

To my understanding a tongue tester is a hand held unit whereas a clamp meter can be semi permanent meter sometimes bolted around a cable core.

They could be regarded as one and the same.

That shows your class, man! Can't you enjoy a humorous comment? Rather than taking my comment lightly, you have used a vulgur word in Malayalam. Go search for it in your house.

Tong testers are clamp on meters that have the ability to read both AC and DC amperage. To change ranges you just plugged in a different gauge. I have not used a Tong Tester for quite a few years, so they may have changed (yes Tong Testers were a company name, not a generic name).
