What is a Photohelic Differential Pressure Switch

01/28/2011 1:38 AM

I have a photohelic differential pressure switch in the control box for the filter house and when i tried studying the manual it stated "The Photohelic switch/gauge measures and controls positive, negative or differential pressures of air and compatible gases". What do they mean by positive and negative pressure. I am sure they are referring to the air in the filter house. Can anyone shed more light on the subject matter

This switch is made by Dwyer; Googling on that might help. "Photohelic" also yields some hits.

Positive and negative pressure means slightly above and below atmospheric pressure, as would be typical of many ventilation, exhaust, and combustion processes.
