Ford 6 Liter-Good or Bad

02/01/2011 12:17 PM

Cant decide weather to keep, or trade off my 06 ford 250 6 liter diesel. King Ranch body and love it. BUT! 44,000 mi and two major block oil leaks( last one required the engine be taken completly out to fix a gasket) and of course a turbo replacement. Will it make it to april when the warenty expires ? What,s a guy to do? Bruced231

You nor I have any way of knowing if it will make to April. As far as the best thing to do.....that will depend on your financial pain threshold.

44,000 miles is not that high but once the warranty is up it could be a matter of being nickle and dimed or even arm and legged to death.

The King Ranch Diesel is a sweet truck. I can relate to your attachment to it!

Good Luck!

2 major engine issues and less than 44k on the clock? Are you crazy? Get shot of it. No matter how nice a vehicle is if it is not reliable then it needs to go.

A 6 litre diesel should be barely run in at 44000 miles! I'd be inclined to make a big fuss with the Ford agent and see if they will extend the warranty, at least with respect to the major repairs you've had done.

Cheers.........Codey

I'll second Codey's recommendation. But I'd go straight to the manufacturer.

Any ordinary car should have no issues at all until 100,000 miles, and should have only some common wear issues in the second 100,000 miles. Diesels are supposed to be more reliable, not less reliable, Press for the manufacture giving you a new one. Check the lemon laws. My brother had his lemon Peugeot replaced for free with a brand new one (of higher spec, no less) after he'd had the lemon for a couple years.

At 44,000 miles, your truck should be indistinguishable from new.

Check the web forums for common problems with the Ford 6.0. There are some coolant issues, that are curred with an add on coolant filter. But do your own search. Good luck.
