What is the secondary voltage?

first of all, why would you chose to convert three phase to single phase? single phase loads can be applied to a three phase supply directly in two different ways. either you can apply it in between two phases or in between a phase and a neutral if available like in a star connected system. correct me if i am wrong.

If for example, you had to invert the output of a 3 phase (or 2 phase) generator to charge a photovoltaic battery bank, you might have this problem. Many inverters, such as "Trace" are single phase. If you had access to a bargain 3 phase generator and couldn't afford to replace your original single phase generator - a common problem for many PV operators - you would be faced with this question eventually.

Although you might trade up to an inverter that can handle 3 phase input, that is pricey! You probably wouldn't have bought the 3 phase generator if you could do that.

Although it will almost certainly reduce your fuel economy and will be a little rough on your generator and switchgear, you might consider using one phase for the single phase load and see if you can use switchable isolation transformers for the other two phases to run your two phase house load. You would have to make sure you charged your batteries during high household loads. Even if it were not this precise application, a version of this might be a practical solution.

Research what a "Z" connection is regarding three phase systems.

why make life complicated.. sell the 3 ph Transformer and buy a sngle phase one.. Easy!

Does your single phase power conecction[out of your 3 phase] can't bear the load or you got some such a transformer and like to use it.

This is one method of a 3phase to single phase transformer. The dimensions and wire sizes should suite your power requirements.

3 phases to primary on left and 2 single phase windings on the right can be connected in series for a single phase with consideration to the correct polarities.

Sorry !

Only 2 phases outputs can be coneccted in series, not the 3rd.

Actually, mixing 3 (or even 2) phases is going to give a really strange frequency/voltage......I don't think that would be helpful or electrically possible.....

Each phase is set to be 120° from each other time wise.

The only way I can see to get a high current single phase is using a rotary converter or a modern electronic equivalent (if there is one).

The rotary converter has at one end a 3 phase motor, turning a single phase ac generator at the other.....probably on the same shaft......

Sorry your sorry but they can. My sketch is correct.

I was trying to send a better drawing but can"t seem to load it into the post.

Clearly, a lot more information is needed if you seriously want some help. Transformer ratings (voltages, connection, kVA, etc.) and load data (Voltage, power requirements, power factor, etc.), just for starters.

why not use a Ward-Leonard System..(though it might be costly and space consuming)

The ward Leonard that I once knew was mainly DC, is there an AC version?

Yes, AC version of Ward-Leonard system is available.

http://www-staff.lboro.ac.uk/~ttqz2/ACDrive_web/ACDrive_web.html

historically this system was used for speed control of dc motors. just that i thought why not connect a three phase motor to the three phase supply, the motor which in turn drives a single phase generator (resembling the Ward-Leonard system) so as to get a single phase supply as output.

Surely a rotary converter is simpler and less costly and has been in usage since the begining of the 20th Century.
