Can We Model Something Like a Thread / Wire Rope (Flexible) in Unigraphics?

02/14/2011 12:35 PM

Hi All, Is there any way i can design a thread like thing such as wire rope and give properties to it in Unigraphics? Please guide me how to do it as well. Your help much appreciated. Regards TriOZ

In case you haven't done this:-

Modelling rope in CAD

If it lets you assign the rope a compressive strength several orders of magnitude less than the tensile strength, maybe yes.

Rope by its nature has no compressive properties, at least not in any of the physics I understand.. Can you enlighten me please..

Tordado, It would have a way of modelling it in NX3. but i do not know how to make it. Flexible modelling is all i want to do rather than dealing with compressive or tensile stress. I am not designing it for any analysis ... but interested in kinematics of it. Plz guide me if u know.....

Drawing a path and extruding a circle or several circles that would twist to follow that path then applying a surface texture to it will give you a representative rope.

It now depends on what you call "properties" what exactly do you wish the "rope" to do???

Thanks merc600sec, I am modelling a rope/belt and pulley system. I know only basics of unigraphics. With that i want to design a drive system and see how it works. could you please let me know how to model and give constraints.
