Ignition Not Working

02/21/2011 5:38 AM

My car (chevy u-va) was kept standing still for 5 days, and on the sixth day I found my center lock was down and the ignition also not working.

When I called the car help line people, they came and charged the battery inlet and outlet (+ve & -ve). They got started.

I asked him what was wrong and he said the coolant is less and there is an electric short circuit and start saying more problems as I hope my car was only one year old and used less. I don't believe this people, they are always money makers.

What might be the reason for this, please help me out.

If it is still under warranty take it back to the dealer and get the dealer to fix it.

I Thought you only have a dead battery , these people made recharging for battery . either with battery charger or Through external extension from their own car battery.

If I'm right

you may forget to switch off lights at last parking and along five days.

If the same problem repeated again , you have to check alternator, alternator belts (even worn out or need to re tensioned) and any kind of electric short which earthing battery while parking.

if the above symptoms doesn't presented, you need to change battery

Electrical "short" in this case can be a small load like a dome light.

A normal car battery is designed for high current starting with some capacity for continuous loads. It is not designed to be deeply discharged. At a typical rating of about 50 [A-hr], any discharge over 25 [A-hr] should be avoided. A load equivalent to a 1/3 [A] dome light for 120 [hours] is 40 [A-hr], which means your battery will be 80% discharged. That would require the recharge service provided to you.

Check to see if any glove-box, dome, under-hood, or trunk/hatch lights are stuck "ON". IF the ACC outlets stay powered with the keys out (most new cars won't), don't leave anything plugged in to drain the battery. While the car computer will always be "ON", that current drain should be low enough such that the car will still start after 3-4 weeks of inactivity. For anything beyond 1 month inactivity, I'd disconnect the battery or attach the vehicle to a "smart" trickle/maintenance charger.

If your problem persists or gets worse, seek warranty service while it is still available to you.
