Female Engineers?

02/25/2011 6:34 PM

Out of nothing more than pure curiousity...

When I read or reply to our various members over the years, in my mind's eye I form some kind of non-de script image of those with whom I'm communicating. Oftentimes, this image is based on nothing more than the general attitude or tone of the person; or their online name.

On the most basic level, I now wonder if I'm even getting the gender right, of the members I interact with. And I also wonder if the gender ratio here on CR4 corresponds with the ratio in the real world.

If no one has any issues with it... could I ask if anyone knows if any of the more active participants here are female? If nothing else, I'd like to readjust that vision in my mind, for any that I may have mis-visualized.

Cranky would be masculine. Bitchy would be feminine.

It seams to me that there are few female members on this forum but they all are too busy in the inventing that bath breaking technique.

If you can't tell if the person is male or female, they probably don't want you to know it...

Okay... clearly this social experiment didn't work.

Poorly constructed, maybe. My bad. My visions of you all will remain androgynous.

I should have perhaps asked something more relevant... like "Does anyone know if any of the more active members have passed puberty yet?"

Re: Female Engineers?

02/26/2011 10:46 PM

i would request all women who participate in CR4 to identify themselves as feminine for the following reasons:

a. We men can avoid making faux pas.

b. Women are generally superior to men in most things, so we can be forewarned.

c. We can be gentler in our language.

"sue" "carol" etc as usernames are self-evident, but "betsiam", an admirable lady, not so obvious. Indian feminine names are easy for me, not so for people from other countries. Moreover, usernames need not be actual names.

i have had outstanding women engineers in my teams when i was working. i found them more dependable than boys when tough targets were to be met. (Why do you think? i have my own theory) On creativity and innovativeness, no difference. On multitasking, of course women were superior.

So..ladies, please identify yourselves so that we can genuflect appropriately

Do you really think women are that gullible?

The OP is prying. Hence the lack of 1 serious comment and total lack of 'support' by the broader membership.

If any poster wants to tell the forum anything - that is their choice.

Telling the forum 'all about yourself' is not a basis to demand others tell you about themselves.

BTW 'Sue' and 'Carrol' are not necessarily girls names - any more than Robin, Lynn, Dale, Tracy, Tony, Kerry, Marion, Jack, Jody, Alex ... link

Re: Female Engineers?

Pardon me for encroaching into the area of western feminine names...i am totally unqualified. However, i harboured an illusion that Sue was short form of Susan (as told to me by an American woman in 1982 during my first visit to the US) so was definitely feminine. So was Carol as opposed to Carroll. (Lewis for example). Anyway, no business of mine.

i stand by my views though. i have seen distinctly masculine responses to posters who were obviously Indian women. No big deal mostly, but unpardonable gaffes sometime. Hence the appeal in my post.

Employing females including engineers and draftspersons create problems in some countries where male managers prefer them than males.
