Stephen Hawking to experience zero gravity

04/04/2007 10:00 AM

According to the INQUIRER, Stephen Hawking will experience zero gravity when he takes off in a modified 727-200 from Kennedy Space Center on April 16, 2007. The flight will last 90 minutes. I guess that guest starring appearance on Star Trek: The Next Generation wasn't realistic enough.

On a side note, has anybody read all of "A Brief History of Time?" I have to admit that after having to reread each passage several times in an attempt to understand it, i finally gave up. That was several years ago. Should I give it another try?

...has anybody read all of "A Brief History of Time?"...

I have, in Hebrew translation, but with having to admit that reading some passages again and again, is a testimony to the lack of legibility on the author's part. Some writers have difficulty explaining their thoughts, and I say it in great humility and respect to his genius. He's just not as good as a writer.

There is a saying which goes: "If you cannot sum your most complicated theory into one sentence, then don't bother, a long string of those won't make it any clearer"

You can try to locate another version of "A Brief History of Time" written by an author (forgot her name) who worked with Hawking to simplify the original work. It'll do beginners some good, most of the theories put forth are described in layman terms which makes the whole experience much more "bearable".

Well, if the Inquirer says it's so, it must be true. Did they mention anything about his planned meeting with extraterrestrials during the trip?

Yes, I think you should read 'A Brief History Of Time' again. My fee for that advice, based upon a consultation cost of $800.00/hr, is $1.00.

In small bills.

This was from the INQUIRER, not the Enquirer. At any rate, if you don't like this source you can read it on SPACE.com (or many other sites) as well.

Ouch. Stand corrected. Spelling is too close for comfort.

PS No extraterrestrials then, hey?

About "Brief History of Time" -

I've read it, and I enjoyed most of it, but in places the explanations were too brief for me to follow.

On the other hand, I've twice had the rare pleasure of hearing Hawking's live presentation on Time. Incredible! Clear, concise, entertaining.

By all means, give the book another try.
