One possibility is that it is being asked to do too much work.

Another is that it has a motor internal fault.

its due to overload, is it with gland or mechanical seal. also check for the sound is it making any noise.

Over work is the most obvious reason. Followed by mechanical failure of either the pump or motor.

Check and monitor your power supply.

OT - I don't think drugs can put a pump on a trip.

Impeller can get clogged then the motor will draw too much current and trip your MCB or whatever.

Only if it jambs the impeller.

A internally clogged impeller delivers less mass flow = takes less HP.

Hence, over revving can kill IC pump engines.

Basically an electrically driven centrifugal pump must have some physical obstruction/extra drag, preventing/limiting impeller rotation, to kill its motor.

A induction of mud could do it. As would seized bearings. As would a failed shaft seal resulting in a motor full of water. As would a rock, or stick, or tangle of string, between casing and impeller.

Mind you, motors have to be correctly sized to the pump and appropriate quality.

Yes I did mean the impeller shaft rather than the impeller itself (or the space between multi stage impellers getting clogged).

In my experience with centrifugal pumps pumping sea water, when the impeller gets internally clogged (if its a closed impeller), then the same material usually causes problems around the seal/shaft area causing increased resistance to turn the impeller=more current drawn by the motor=MCB's tripping.

I thought it more appropriate to give a short answer with limited detail as the question was rather open.

Because it's been working hard for a long time and its owner thinks it deserves a treat
