Lack of appropriate maintenance.

What is appropriate maintenance for disc brake calipers? You lubricate certain places when replacing the pads (the bolts, iirc), but I've never heard of anyone re-lubricating them periodically. Is that a maintenance recommendation?

So, you have calipers to determine the breadth of someone's a$$? (butt why someone would want to do that beats me). As mentioned before, it could be that the temperature is too low. In that case, bring them inside. Then your "rear" calipers should work just fine.

All brakes age and require maintenance. The pistons that push the calipers may need to be honed-out. Maybe the brake parts just need to be cleaned and lubricated.

Check around for a trustworthy mechanic who knows brakes. Ask your friends and relatives for recommendations. Search this website for more info:

Did you release the parking brake?

I was just trying to be funny.

Get an assistant and bleed the brakes all the way around, adding fluid as you go.

This will usually fix it. Just like anything else, troubleshooting is a process. Start with the easiest thing to do and go from there until it's fixed.

Somebody misdirected their OT. It should have been #5, not #8. Bleeding the brakes is always a good place to start. It gets air, gunk, etc. out of the lines.

Don't know whether you really mean freezing (due to cold) or just brake binding. I assume binding as if freezing weather causes it, there's a design problem! I thought I had a binding brake and bought a replacement caliper (from breaker). But when I got the car over a pit and took a few bits off it was clear it was one of the handbrake cables. So replaced both cables, which cured it.

Suggest you look at that first.

Cheers.........Codey
