Technical reasons do not determine the sales price of a PC.

See #1, above.

Maybe a 120GB hard drive costs more than a 60GB?
Maybe a 1600x1200 screen costs more than 1024x768?
Maybe a titanium case costs more than a plastic case?
Maybe a fast graphics card costs more than a slow one?
How much installed software comes with it?

These esoteric technical reasons might have something to do with it....

I don't understand exactly what your question is, as the way you have asked it is just too simple and obvious. You found CR4 (using a computer) but do you not know that computer hardware and software is customisable like most products on the market (cars, clothes, food, accommodation, etc)?

Can you please elaborate.

In most products, the raw material, the processing and the technology contribute towards the cost. i assume here that the overheads are included. Profit is what is made when the company prices its products based on what it can get from the market. Take Apple, its products are more expensive, not because their cost is more, but because they can get that price. When technology is new and the company has a monopoly for a while, it can get away with murder...eg: Solid state hard drives, Sony walkman when it came first....

If you divide the price by the weight, you get a cost/kg .. my Dell, bought 6 years ago, was Rs 30000/kg. As technology matured, and manufactured quantities went up, the cost came down, and today, it is about Rs 10,000/kg.

What is the cost/kg of your car, bike, fridge, cooking range... ?
