Calculating MS Plate Weight

I always use the density of steel in in³ . and the number for mild steel which I think is what you are asking is .283 Lb/in³

Use this simple formula:

Weight of 1 m x 1 m plate = Thickness in mm x 7.85

correction to the previous formula:

Weight (in kgs) of MS plate of 1 m x 1 m = Thickness in mm x 7.85

if you want to weight of the MS plate, First calculate area of the plate, take diameter then make squire of it then multioply it by pei 22/7. then multiply area with thickness of the plate so that u can get volum of the plate. then according to equation m = vd now multiply it with density of MS that is around 7.86 g/cm cube . Thus by u can get weight of solid plate if u need weight of hollow plate then right here again thanks

The calculation is very simple. Only see the following equation to calculate the weight :

Weight of plate in Kg = Volume of plate in m³ x Metal density in kg/m³

= [(Plate length in m) x (Plate width in m) x (Plate thickness in m)]x (Metal density in Kg/m³)

Example : for ms plate 2 m length x 2 m width x 5 mm thickness, density of ms plate is 7850 Kg/m³

Weight = (2 m) x (2 m) x (5 mm = 0.005 m) x (7850 Kg/m³)

= (0.02 m³) x (7850 Kg/m³)

= 157 Kg

[Legend : m = meter, m³ = cubic meter, mm = millimeter & Kg = Kilogram]

Density of mild steel = 7850 Kg/m³

=7850 x 1000 gram / (1000 mm)³

= 7.85 x10⁶ gram / (10⁹ mm³)

= 7.85x10^-3 gram/mm³ (not 7.85 gram/mm)

length 250mm

width 150mm

thickness 12mm

so i calculate ms plate in kg

weight =250x150x12x7.856/10000000=3.5352 kg/m2

The formule is as under

V = L X B X T In inches

Weight in Lbs = V X 0.283

Weight in Kgs = weight in pounds / 2.20

Weight of a metal sheet:

length*breadth*height*Density of a particular metal

where ,
length*breadth*height] is a volume.

For example,
let us calculate weight for a 1 m by 1 meter by 10 mm thick plate of aluminium 5052:

Density of a Aluminium 5052 =2.68 gram/cm^3

2.88 gram/cm^3=2680 kilogram/m^3

#weight=1*1*10/1000*2680
#Weight=26.8 kilogram
#Weight=59.08 pounds.
[1 pound=0.4536 kilogram

Hi Pl see the below Example it may help you...

Weight Calculation: Extra weight of chequers length (m) x width (m) x 2.1 = kg/plate
Total weight: length (m) x width (m) x thickness (mm) x 7.85 + extra weight = kg/plate
Eg:
2400 x 1220 x 6mm Chequer Plate
Extra weight: 2.4 x 1.22 x 2.1 = 6.15 kg/plate
Total weight: 2.4 x 1.22 x 6 x 7.85 + 6.15 = 144.06 kg/plate

For calculating the weight of MS Plate use the formula

Length in Inches x Width in Inches x Tickness in Inches x. (0.28) = Lbs. (Weight of MS plate )
