Probably the ex-proof sensor you put in is made to be used with a Zener
Diode Barrier that won't give the same output as the non ex proof sensor you
took out.

You are correct. The existing system has been operating without Zener Diode Barrier. While the contractor wanted to have a trial by replacing the new ex-proof without barrier, the main controller alarmed as if there was a fire in that zone. The new sensor manual suggested that it should be installed with the barrier to couple controller and sensor together.
I have requested them to disconnect the trial one from the system and reinstall the existing one. Still, the controller alarmed.
That zone now is disconnected to eliminate the false alarm.
Could you or anyone tell me what has been wrong here?

Maybe going back and forth with different sensors that
channel needs recalibration and/or setup?
Also with all the work check the wiring and connections.
Think KISS [check visually; then check mechanically; last
check electrically] and always check the last thing that was worked on first.

This afternoon, the issue has been identified by a report that the contractor has mistaken in wiring. They had disconnected the signal wires without appropriate marking. Then they reconnected. The positive wire went into the negative pole of the detector and the controller made the false alarm.
