This should help you work it out for a '98 model. No idea where it is on an '04, but I don't suppose it's much different.

Removal, item 4: "Be sure to support the weight of the engine block with your hand." NO!!!! Support the weight of the STARTER with your hand. But if you can actually support the block with your hand, I am NOT trying to make you mad - really!

I have sent a comment directly to eHow, hoping that they'll correct this procedure.

These engines were all originally designed as in-line engines. Starters were USUALLY located on the passenger side at the rear of the engine and mesh with the flywheel.

So, they rotated the engine 90 degrees and now it's between the motor and the fire wall on the drivers side, accessible from the bottom.

It is located under the intake manifold about the center of the engine compartment it is held in with 4 bolts two at the transmission side and two at the rear of the starter 15mm and10mm bolts a quick test is to hit it with a hammer while trying to crank it over be sure your in neutral and the wheels are blocked so u don't run yourself over if it start or cranks the starter is bad if it does not start be sure to check the hole system there are relays and other components that will keep it from working

Buy a Chilton's manual for your car!

BTW, the starter is mounted onto the bottom of the sidewall of your engine block were the engine and the Tranny are mated....there's a flywheel there that the starter engages.....
