I think you may need to elaborate a bit more on what exactly you're try to do!

However taking a guess, I'm assuming you want to connect the Web without plugging into your service line. If this is the case, you will need a wireless router. Plug your DSL service line into the router and your computer will be able to connect wirelessly. Of course the computer you are connecting to the Web will need a wireless adaptor to communicate with the router.

In some areas wireless service is available (in my area Verizon provides this). In this case you would need to subscribe to the service and, once again, your computer would need a wireless adaptor to communicate with the wireless service provider.

Speaking of Wireless, I use it at times from Hotels as I travel, and find it not always secure.

Just 2 weeks ago a Trojan snuck in on me, and I had not opened up any emails.

Have heard this is common!

My advise is to be careful and find some way to secure it!

And so, does anyway know of a way to configure it for a more secure experience?

I was using Hilton Honors.

This is the downside to public wireless. They can not lock it down or encrypt it as it would no longer be public. My advice, turn off file sharing and use a software firewall. A third party firewall might even be preferable to the xp firewall.

Well you're going to need a wireless card if you don't already have one.

And always use VPN on unknown/non secure connections! And don't piggyback.

Also, do not go online with administrator rights, log off as administrator and log on as a normal user, I call it Internet. That way, if someone gets into your PC, he cannot do as much damage if he does not have administrator rights available.

Switch off your antenna when you don´t need to be online. Laptops have a switch and PCs have a software switch, usually....

Use ad-aware and spy-bot to clean out spyware, have a good antivirus software always running like kaspersky, get a good firewall, NOT XP Firewall!!

This is just for starters.....see it as a bare minimum.....
