05/13/2011 11:30 AM

Dear CR4 users

I have a small doubt

I have 20A fuse wire which we are using in LT section can we use this same fuse wire in HT side in same rating. If we can't please give me formula or ratio of current difference

You have a small doubt?

I have a major one as to the sanity of our OP!

You can't use fuse wire in HV gear!

Words cannot describe how dangerous and illegal it is to use fuse wire on a high voltage system (apart from the fact it likely won't break the circuit without a massive arc).

Actually they can, consult your electrical codes and regulations which will clearly state this (no matter what country you are in).

If we can't please give me formula or ratio of current difference

Please get someone more qualified to size, purchase and install the appropriate HRC fuse designed for the voltage and fault rating of your system. This will prevent injury, death, legal/criminal issues against the installer (or all of the above).

it is 11kv line in India that too in Andhra it is quite usual even Transco department people use fuse wires in HT side at consumer end

OK you people are right present i can't replace fuse wire with HRC or circuit breaker or some other

please give me explanation for this question

If a conductor is carrying 40A of current in LT side con we use the same conductor for carrying 40A in HT side

Please engage an appropriately-qualified Electrical Engineering consultant locally before someone gets hurt/killed.

That doesn't make it right, safe or even necessarly legal (what do your your local standards have to say regarding this).

i can't replace fuse wire with HRC or circuit breaker or some other

Try harder, HT HRC fuses are cheap and easily available. As someone who works in the power transmission and distribution industry to Australasian, European and American power standards HRC fuses are your cheapest alternative. Fuse wire alone is just not safe, will not fail safely, may not even break the circuit correctly in the event of a high fault current and forget about time/current fuse grading and protection discrimination.

If a conductor is carrying 40A of current in LT side con we use the same conductor for carrying 40A in HT side.

No you cannot use the same 40A fuse wire on the HT side.

Any Electrical engineers here familiar with the Indian electrical standards that can offer comment.

Do you want the conductor size or fuse size?

Doesn't matter. The conductor will act as the fuse. Haven't you seen a $400 TV tube blow to protect a 10¢ fuse?

Dear Mr.parvathaneni,

The answer for your question is YES. We can use the same fuse for H.T side also.

Did you carefully read the original question before posting this incorrect and dangerous answer or are you trying to get someone killed.
