starting current 400Ampere/phase

operating current 250Ampere/phase

Generator capacity has two components,kW and kVA or pf. During starting pf will be low

but current high. During running current and pf are known.If you measure the voltage and pf during running as well as during starting you can calculate kW of engine as well as kVA of alternator.

You should take into account the total connected load,diversity,load characteristic etc
