Overhead Line or XLPE Cable Losses

05/17/2011 5:21 AM

Dear All,

We have 140 MVA Load in our industrial zone.

We use 34,5 kV in our MV distribution system.

If we use 11 kV or 20 kV in our distribution system instead of 34,5 kV will conductor losses inrease ?

However cross section of cable increase so R will decrease but current ( Amper ) which circulates in conductor rise and losses are equal to I^2.R .

Best Regards,

Of course they will. For the same power, the lower the voltage the higher the current will be. Line losses are proportional to the square of the current.

Of course line loss will increase for distribution system of 11 KV. But the cost impact on the equipment employed in the system will have significant impact because of having lower insulation level due to lesser system voltage which needs to be analyzed also.

You need to refresh your knowledge mate...!

I have the same problem!!! major problem on these days - things advance with "hiper-sonic" speed!
