You don't calculate this cable size. You look up the required cable size by your wiring standards for your location.

Dear,

MV Cable is selected on

1. Short circuit current capacity - Calculate the system fault levels , say 3.5 KA

Then, Minimum 25 sq mm cable required.

2. Current Rating - Mfr. data sheet - Ir(25Amp)*derating factors ( App. 0.65) >38Amp

Then, Minimum 6 sq mm Aluminium cable required

3. Volt Drops permitted , say 3% of 5.5 KV - 165 Volts

Volt Drop DV = 1.732*IL * (R*L / 1000)

_________________ =

power factor

= 1.732*25*1.54*200/1000

____________________ = 14.8 V

0.9

Whichever size is higher shall be selected. So, select 25 sq mm minimum for 250 KW motor. @ 5.5 KV

Do you really think that the only criteria for a power distribution cable is the voltage drop at full load? Sigh.

We could calculate the required cable size, but then you run in to a problem. Finding a cable manufacturer that produces a 10mm cable rated at 6.6KV.

Look at things practically, look at cable specifications. You have to choose the nearest that suits the situation.

Look at the book, look at the calculation method they teach. Don't be too stingy.
