Combustion of Woodparticles

06/15/2011 1:36 AM

Fellows,I am looking for information on the combustion of wood (and other combustible material like grass and staw etc) particles. The information I want is the burning rate versus particle size, material air ratio, type of burners, feed systems and so on.

Maybe someone has devised a quick and easy start burner.

I have tried all the possiblilities I could think of on the internet but I could not find what I am looking for.

Any proposals that I could follow up on?

Regards,

Johan van Niekerk.

Some similar ideas that might be adaptable would include various types of stoker or fluidized bed boilers as used for coal, wood pellets, or wood chips. I don't know how small the particles can be for these, but there may also be ways to blow solid particles in via the combustion air stream.

Some towns around here are considering biomass-fueled boilers along these lines, but I haven't yet seen any technical details.

Contact http://www.fivesgroup.com/fivespillard/en/Pages/Home.aspx I've worked on their burner equipment using both dry and liquid fuels. Always found them to be reliable.

Hi Johan,

I believe you will be able to find the answers to your queries by checking the following links :-

www.miombo.no (in Norwegian but translated to English by clicking on the flag)

https://sites.google.com/site/pekopestove/

On these sites you will find out about the PekoPe stove - an African solution for an African problem developed by Paul Wendlebo. If you get into touch with either Paul or Otto Formo they will assist you and bring you up to date with the latest developments regarding your question. They have done extensive testing and development in the efficient combustion of biomass.

Regards, Keith

Here's a thread http://www.hurstboiler.com/biomass_boiler_systems/

Google up Biomass and there's a wealth of manufacturers and systems to choose from.
