Star delta starting is better for the wiring and the upstream supply.

The motor's full load current is used to select control components. That and British Standard 7671.

There is no hard and fast rule as to the option of going for a DOL Starter or a Star-Delta Starter for a given motor. If you draw power from an LT Mains, then the line voltage drop due to DOL motor starting, might affect your neighbouring customer, causing a social issue. If you draw power from a HT supply, there are no such issues but nevertheless, the motor would be subjected to incrased thermal stress on a DOL starting, thus reducing its life. But, DOL is cheaper. Whereas, star-delta starting reduces the starting current and thus the thermal stress on the motor, but, it is costly and also the starting torque would reduce by 3 times. Genral practice in industry for a 11kW motor is to go for a DOL starter.

Use star-delta starter with closed transition resistors to avoid surge during c/o

Well for your selection to your contactor and overload relay you can select based according to the delta connection ,Please note if you are design is on star / delta connection then you can select u r components as according to delta or if your going to dol connection then you have to select based on your name plate full load current.

For selection of contactors refer "Telemecanique" product catalog and for CB refer "Hager" product catalog.
