Solar Panel

06/27/2011 1:11 AM

I Have purchased solar panel plate, which having capacity 10watt, 19.2v,

my question is that what happens if the output wire of solar panel is short circuit.

Nothing.

My apologies, I redact my answer. I read "short circuit" as "open circuit". Do not short circuit your panels as you will damage the cells.

.5 amp. short term most likely nothing. Long term the solar cells that make the panel will be damaged.

Although I've not had much experience with solar panels, batteries and power supplies (some designs) were not hurt with a brief touch of the wires together.

With the solar cells the short circuit could open traces or overheat the cells and damage them or damage the wiring.

ok in this case its is .5amp. if there is 500watt and and 19.2 then the current is almost 25amp wich may bi to much. it can damage solar plate quickly

How are you getting 500 watts to be associated with a 10-watt solar panel?

The circuit protective device, if correctly selected and installed, will operate, thereby disconnecting the cell(s) from the downstream circuits and minimising the risk of damage to each.

hello,

i think nothing will happen when you short circuited the terminals of solar panel because when you shorted the terminals of solar panel very small current flows through the solar cells which hardly damage the cell so, i think no problem occur

on the other hand protection circuit is there which protect the circuit from any kind of damage like short by wind, heavy rainfall etc.

so, anything will happen if you short circuited the terminals of solar panel

Why do you want to short circuit the panel?

Find solar panel including data sheet at Farnell. http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/925855.pdf The data sheet shows an area of 0.1 square metre with 10W output at 1000W/sq.m solar radiation. That makes 10% efficiency. Short circuit current is 0.6 amp and is sharply defined - hence the device is self-current-limiting. 10W means 10 milliwatt per square cm. That is so low, I think this device is short circuit proof.
