Phase Sequence of Compressor

Dear all,

i want to ask a question that if we changed or by mistake changed the phase sequence of a three phase compressor. then will be changed it,s rotation. so i want to ask that what will effect on compressor. is it working same? or will be different? or effect on it,s cooling.

please tell me i am waiting for your reply,s.

Thank,s and Regard,s.

All the answers to your questions depends on the type of compressor. How it was manufactured to cool.

Why would you not correct the rotation?

You should immediately correct the compressors rotation, do not chance this. I have seen more than once where lubrication failures followed closely behind this type of a mistake.

Many smaller units will compress just fine regardless of rotation, but will not be lubricated if not rotated correctly. This does not necessarily need to be a lubrication or cooling pump, many units receive lubrication via splash method and when the rotation is reversed the lubrication is not directed as intended.

For better clarity, why in the world would you "changed or by mistake changed the phase sequence of a three phase compressor" and not immediately correct it before returning the equipment to service????

If its a Scroll it wont pump if the rotation is wrong. You'll also overheat it. Tim is right, even if you ran the wrong direction for a while you have a very good chance of having a scoring/lubricating problem.

Some types of compressors will compress in either direction, but the oil pump (or splash system) may not work. Some oil pumps can be inverted so that they work in either direction, so long as it matches the driver direction.

...so get on the phone to the compressor manufacturer, and ask directly.
