Fuel to Oil Ratio

07/07/2011 11:51 PM

I need a little help detemining the amount of oil I need for lawn equipment with a 50/1 fuel/oil ratio . Every 2 clcle that I own has a fuel to oil ratio of 50/1. My 4 oz. bottles of oil only shows a mixute of 32/1. That will mix 1 gallon of gas@ 32/1. I need to know how much oil should I mix with 2 gallons of gas at a 50/1 ratio?

That's too complicated for me.

50/1, 32/1; sooner or later it works out to whatever the ratio is for 2 gallons.

Would that be 50/2? or 100/1?

2 gallons ÷ 50 = 1/25 gallon = 16/25 cup, which is just shy of 2/3 cup. You can just eyeball this, because it doesn't need to be especially precise.

GA..................just to add, I usually eyeball it slightly over. I'd rather deal with a little smoke than burnt rings.

Exactly.

Another way to say or measure it: 256 (ounces in two gallon)/50= 5-1/8 ounces of oil per two gallon of gasoline. I subscribe with your method... does not need to be exact, and a little too much oil is better that a little bit not enough.

How many table spoons is this? Or tea spoons? LOL Are these imperial gallons? US gallons? Why is metric that simple?

You know, that is a very good point!

Please disregard my #5. I was talkin' when I shoulda been listnin'. Our OP never said US gallon... So, I have no idea how much oil to mix with a gallon.

Wow. A simple ratio calculation of 50:1 is too much mathematics for the common person. This bothers me. I know our education system has been declining but .... Certainly our antiquated measuring system of gallons and ounces makes this a little more complicated of a problem. But this is not like finding the eigen vectors of a 5X5 diagonalized matrix.

Hint: 50/32 = 1.5625.
