Dear friend, pls mention your application first:

What is the media

What is the temperature

What logic you need

What is the line size

Once you make application clear then as you said what type is required to your need can be judged bases on availability of the product in local market.

How ever to make you select easily there are basically 2 types of flow switches which are commonly stocked in India by many manufacturers :

Adjustable Vane type( with adjustable vanes to meet line size requirement)

Flap type ( working some what as that of a check valve)

For water, hydrant and utility application commonly vane type is recommended as this line does not have much of process parameter criteria while selecting as water at 10 kg/cm2 with max. 40 - 60 deg. C suits to many of the application as cited above

Rest of the appications for chemicals / alkalines / acidic compositions / solvents etc. needs to be of flap type but for these applications you need to cautious of auxiliary power supply as most of the solvents are highly intrinsic and consider static charging. So the enclosure should be of IP65 for common applications & FLP ( Class II A & IIB) selections has to be done as per the media.

What is your Vertical Water Pipe Size?.

What Pressure above atmosphere ?

Above what Flow rate do you want signal 1 ?

And below what flow rate can it signal 0 ?

A simple paddle type with a diaphragm or bellows seal can be rigged up.

You can do it yourself if you have a basic Instrumentation workshop .

If you cannot I can help you

Try Capacitive flow sensors. They can be installed in either plane.

Thermal flow switches work in any direction of line.
