Antonio Want How To Down A Library Of Fab Spectra

07/16/2011 4:04 PM

I have an unknoun substance (is a sodium salt) in electronic impact it produced a base peak m/z 379, but the sample burned; in FAB (thiglicolyc acid) it was generated a molecular ion with m/z 758. I need a spectral library in order to compare my spectra.

thank you

Hi Tony,

Are these infrared absorption spectra or what? If they are, "fingerprint" libraries cost money.

Your English is pretty good, but it could use a little help:

I have an unknouwn substance, (is but I know that it is a sodium salt). iIn electronic impact it produced a base peak of m/z 379 m/z, but the sample burned was destroyed.; iIn FAB (thiglicolyc thioglycolic acid) it was generated a molecular ion spectrum with m/z 758 m/z. I need a spectral library in order to compare my spectra.

(people in hell need icewater)

tThank yYou

All your comments apply, but I think "m/z" could mean we're talking mass spectra.

(But maybe we're all fabfab (Fully Advised and Briefed of a Fully Acknowledged Broadcast, and I've lost the plot).)

You may be right; when speaking of chemical compounds and spectra, my first thought is FTIR. When I was working for Battelle @ Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), I remember books and books of spectra that were available. A somewhat comprehensive library has got to cost an arm and a leg (or your firstborn).

Hey, I remember watching that when I was a kid! It was more like for adults though.

Thanks for the link! (guess I'm getting younger)

Even the one about ice water?

Hi again Tony,

Did I really help? I didn't do anything but correct your English.

Concerning your original post, what kind of spectra are you talking about? Is JohnDG right and what you have are mass spectrometer spectra?

I have operated/maintained a Mass Spectrometer - not easy, especially when the software is not working right!

You need to give more details; specifics. That will enable us to assess the problem and come up with a solution. You could start by explaining what the units m/z are.
