Deration Factor

07/21/2011 1:19 AM

Why do we have to apply deration factor for a engine or generator set ?

What factors does it depend on and how to determine the deration factor ?

Local ambient temperature and atmopheric pressure would be two good ones for starters. A generator oprating during the winter at La Raya in Peru will not perform as well as one at Ramsgate in late spring.

Manufacturer will provide in addition to above mentioned derating foctors for altitude derating.

The basic is that the heat is generated by the machine while delivering the load that has to be removed. It does not need any derating if the specified conidions meet for application.
