Transformer Vector Group

07/22/2011 7:35 AM

Sir we are working in 33kv/11Kv substation erection.

While conducting 10MVA transformer testing, we have a doubt in vector group.

In DYn11 vector group test why we short U1&U2 shorting?

Please give me the full details of vector group of transformer

and how to conduct magnetic current balance test?

Please explain why the details of this test cannot be found in the transformer manufacturer's erection and commissioning instructions for site personnel to follow.

I see posts like this and am always amazed.

I read the phrase "my client wants to re test" and you are asking for advice from an informal source, seem to think you know enough to vet the advice if received, but don't know enough to work out the answer for yourself - and are apparently charging for your service.

It seems pretty clear to me that either your client is an idiot (or has been mislead) or this is "homework".

If you go through the forum threads for the last 30days or so you will find the answer.

I have authored & published a technical article on this topic of transformer vector group in Electrical India Magazine. Pl. send me your mail ID thro this forum's mailbox so that I can mail you the same.

Now, coming to your question, it need not be 1U & 2u (and NOT U1 & U2 as mentioned by you) which should be shorted always for vector group tetsing It can be any HV terminal to any LV Terminal shorting. Only thing is for the short made, you have to crate appropriate vector equations and verify them by testing.

The second part of your question: Again, it is not magnetic current balance test but only a magnetic balance test. This is done by keeping the Trf. LV Side open and then applying a low voltage to the HV Side. (Please never do the reverse). Then measure the voltages at the LV side. For a given winding arrangement, you can crate balance equations and verify the same from the measurements.

Pl. send mail ID thro the forum's mailbox. Else, if you post it directly here, it would get deleted automatically as per the rules of the forum. I have already mailed the write-up to panban who had mailed me his ID.
