Problem With Valve Actuator

07/24/2011 5:48 AM

Presently we are using a steam line electric actuator modulating control valve and actuator Model No.: EK60.908M (VALPES).

We have already changed this valves two times in last six months, then we check the details specification of the valves actuator and found operating temperature -10 Deg C to 55 deg C. My question is this temperature is for the environmental temp. or steam temperature that the valve is controlling?

If we want to change this valve brand with similar specification which brand is available in ASIA region? I am from Bangladesh.

Those are ambient temp values, BTW you have clue in your hand, steam can not have -100C. and even at 550C you will hardly get any usable amount of steam.

Are you sure the valve is designed for the operation of steam. If Yes,then there must be an another specification that tells about max steam temp that is passing through valve.

Thanks....

Actually its come with an Air Handling Unit, and that valve purpose is to control steam and steam purpose is to control dehumidification of the unit accurately.

As it come with a big unit we do not have enough idea about the valve or actuator its out of our URS.

Do you have the orginals valves you removed ?

Check and see if they are made of the same material.

Then check you system for sand or sediment when high temp equipment has been setting any lenght of time it must be cleaned expertly before it will operate properly.

As you said it came with the system.

We have only changed the actuator portion with same specification not the valve. No sand or something like this. Only problem we found is the actuator motor damage.

Heat from the steam line may be conducting into the valve actuator motor, damaging it in the same way a too-high ambient temperature would.

Bashir,

you mention Valpes actuator type EK, I only know type ER. using the third actuator in 6 months is no good. You use this valve in a modulating mode, some of the Valpes actuators can not be used constantly, check if the valve actuator gets any rest for cooling down.

Choose an alternative actuator that is rated for the steam temperatures in question.
