Electromotor and Pump

08/13/2011 8:11 AM

Dears All

How we can couple a vertical electromotor to a pump , whereas we have to change electromotor and now flange and shaft of new electromotor is not same size of old and hence is not adapted to pump coupling?

Regards

I can think of a few options.

1) Buy a new pump that mates to the new motor.

2) Remove shaft from old motor, and see if it fits in new motor.

3) Take both new motor and pump to a reputable machine shop and have them either rework the shaft, make a new female end for the pump, or whatever is the most cost effective method that they can come up with to join them.

1. Rent a time machine.
2. Go back to just before ordering the replacement motor.
3. Measure the pump and order a motor to match.
4. Install correct motor.

Point No 3 of Karamat and have the coupling balanced on a lathe.

I'm with Tornado. I can't understand how the correct replacement motor would not be ordered. Whether it is IEC or NEMA, dimensions are standardized. Horizontal & long-coupled is quite simple to adapt, but not vertical & flange-mounted. I'd get the correct motor rather than try to adapt the wrong motor.

How is the motor correct if the flanges don't match?

Sorry you are right, I checked up the vertical motor broucher.I was thinking of a horizontal motor that we normally have with shaft protudeing out and we attach a coupling.

there are "spiders" available that might do the job. they're basically two rubber couplers that will absorb a slight amount of misalighment and will couple different size shafts.

Take a big hammer and beat the living crap out of the new motor, and the idiot who ordered it.

Of course, this isn't the correct solution to your problem, but maybe you can adapt it to work in your situation.

Shakes head at lunacy of question.

Are you sure about that?

Don't damage the motor that has a resale value, just beat the crap out of whoever ordered it!
