Alternator For E-Bike

Alternator for e-bike

Dear friends, I need your help.

I had an e-bike that was stolen from me, it was powered by a 500w motor, with a 13.2 A.H Li-Fe battery, that enabled me to bike a shorter range than I wished.[biking up 600m' hills!]

Now I think to build a different e-bike:

Here in Israel we are not allowed to use a bicycle with an i.c assistance engine, only electric motor. But the short range of a lithium battery and the high price, give me a drive to solve this problem in a different way:

I think to mount on the bicycle a 1 hp 4stroke engine, that will power an alternator, and the alternator will feed a small battery that will power the electric motor,/

Well -it sounds very, very complex, and clumsy, but with a 1 litter gasoline I'll have the possibility to bike much more far, and climb higher hills than with the battery only,

And it seems that it will cost me less money, and less heavy than the lead- acid battery that I had before.8 kg!

Now my question is which alternator should fit for this task:

To supply power for a500w electric motor, and what will be the best way to attach all this together?

Unless you have spoken to the authorities and have been given specific approval to use an IC engine to power an alternator to power an electric motor to drive your bike, I'd give up now and follow a different path.

An IC engine is an IC engine whether is it driving an alternator or a rear wheel.

The reason that I.C engine was prohibited for bicycle in Israel was safety!

Any motorized bicycle shouldn't be faster than 25 km/h,so they thought prohibiting the I.C engine will be the easiest way to control all the versions of motorized bicycle.

This was told me by the guy who fought the traffic authority to allow the e-bike!

A 100Km/h e-bike is feseable, build it and become a hero!

So how is your design going to get around this ruling?

Maybe... Make a detachable motor/generator box that is your "portable recharge unit". If you just happen to be recharging on the way down the road. :)

Maybe mounting the generator onto one of those bike trailers could circumvent the law - it's not on the bike!

Or you could just pedal more often and build up the endurance to do what you wish without c.e. or motor assistance, making you a more independent traveler.
