ETAP has been mentioned sporadically here in CR4, but without a real forum on it. Here are some other possibilities.

That surprises me. I'm not familiar with ETAP, but it seems that there should be some user groups that discuss it--maybe even sponsored by this software manufacturer. If nothing shows up right now, I would keep trying.

ETAP website has many good video tutorials and they are very helpful. I would suggest you to see these tutorials first. Here are the video tutorials: http://etap.com/training/tutorials-training-videos.htm

You also can download ETAP trial version and use it for limited time with limited features.

ETAP white papers also help for learning ETAP: http://etap.com/support/faqs-white-papers.htm

If you think the ETAP training videos are not enough, I would say you are not the ETAP beginning learner. You then need ETAP training which is organized by only ETAP. There is no online ETAP course available. The only authorized ETAP courses available are here: http://etap.com/training/events.htm. For course details, see here: http://etap.com/training/course-descriptions.htm

There are some ETAP discussion groups available in Linkedin and Facebook. Two of them are available in ETAP blog site: http://etap.com/blog, click on 'Friend ETAP' and 'ETAP Linkedin'. Some more ETAP groups are available in Linkedin, here: http://www.linkedin.com/groupsDirectory?results=&sik=1313936583096. But I am in doubt they will be much helpful to your learning.

As a software developer and user similar to ETAP software "PowerApps", take my word, you need formal training from the people who know how to use it along with comprehensive user documentation. It takes time. My experience is 25 years in this field.

Using Power System Analssysis software is different from having power system analysis knowledge.

Re: ETAP Help

I agree completely with Eng. Raghunath7 on learning ETAP soft ware. I have also been using computer since 1975 with first high level language FORTRAN. I have developed many programs in Visual Basic-6 such as Load flow program and tested IEEE networks (14-Bus system, 30-BUS system) for my son college project and Mechanical program HVAC ( as per ASHRAE-USA) for my younger son college Project. I also developed program for Short circuit and Voltage drop programs for radial network in office use.

I run numerous commercial programs of Electrical and Lighting design as well as Mechanical in design. I saw ETAP program and it is a simple program.

Having said that I would like to add that to run any program you must have theory back ground well. Because the result you get from computer shall be able to judge whether it is correct or not.

I do not discourage you leaning ETAP. You first read electrical power system analysis theory well and electrical networks' elements, definition of parameter and their values.

You take any text book example and try to feed in ETAP and see the results of your program and text book results (American books have less printing mistake).

With time you get practical experience in field, using small program, keeping interest, you will be one day able to run ETAP or any program. Good luck
