Remote Data Transmission and Analysis

04/22/2007 2:00 PM

I'm trying to find out if there are sources or means to finding data transmeters that can send collected data (like temp. pressure and force ....etc.....) over the internet or Cell system to a remote location for processing.

If you collected data...

a) by microcontroller, take time to read http://www.olimex.com/dev/mspprojects.html or application note AN731 from http://www.microchip.com.

b) by embedded system, data acquisition or PDA system, you need application software to program like Labview http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/2911.

Saludos!.

I have used development kits from Rabbit Semiconductor to implement a monitoring system that is battery operated and uses the cellular network to transmit data over the internet to a host site. The kit comes with a GSM wireless modem and some demo stuff. I converted to a CDMA device by AnyData. They have some really nice devices but they aren't as cheap as the GSM network modules.

A 'building management system' or 'energy management system' will do what is asked.

Remote Control Technology manufactures a Wireless Data Controller that allows for analog/digital signals to be transmitted via the cell network. You can also monitor/control these systems via the internet. www.remotecontroltech.com.

This is very straightforward by using a

Data Acquisition system which is connected

to a LapTop Computer. One can easily send

data by connecting to the web over land lines

or via cell phone. Try www.iotech.com.

This company has a nice product, it is very robust and very compact with p/s, i/o and ethernet all in one nice unit. I would think they have some low cost or free data logging software to set these up. I know it looks like any other IP address out there on the www...
