Allowable Nozzle Forces and Moments For Vertical Pumps

10/07/2011 12:54 AM

In API 610 10th Ed 5.5.2 allowable nozzle forces and moments for vetical in-line pumps shall be twice the values in table 4 for side nozzles. I found out in vendor drawings they applied 2 times the values in table 4 for VS2 pumps and 1.5 times for VS4 pumps. What would be the reason why they apply different criteria for allowable nozzle? tnx...

Maybe the VS4 pumps are a lighter weight construction that can withstand only lesser forces and moments?

Thanks Tornado...I've noticed type of baseplate ( for VS2 is rounded and for VS4 is rectangular). Maybe it is also one of the limiting factors, (Is round design more rigid and can withdstand greater force than rectangular?) I guess you are right regarding weight contructions in withstanding a particular force. Many Thanks..Peace
