Steam Condensate Pressure

If I am using 3kg/cm2 (135 degc) pressure steam for heating decant oil of 30000kg/hr at 70degc to 90degc ,what will be the pressure of condensate.

Is it same as 3kg/cm2 like steam.

Please share your views

Yes, it should be the same 3kg/cm2, except for minor pressure drop in the heat exchanger.

Dear friend

The steam pressure should be same but changed phase, that means steam mixed with boiled water (the flash steam should be accounted)

The answer isn't as easy as it appears:

It depends on which side of the steam trap the pressure is being measured. If upstream, then yes, the previous answer is valid, to a point. If downstream, it can be anything from vacuum to almost-full line pressure.

  • If the control valve throttles or closes-off completely, any remaining steam will condense and, a vacuum condition can form
  • A failed steam trap will mean that downstream pressures will be the same as upstream pressures
  • Back-pressure in a condensate return line will affect the pressure of the condensate
  • Back pressure can be caused by elevated "lifts" to a higher condensate return line, failed traps in the rest of the system or, by inadequately sized lines
  • Some condensate return systems are fully enclosed and operate under vacuum
