Transformer Vector Group

10/24/2011 8:43 AM

Dear Engineers,

Kindly tell me how to find the clock position of the star delta or delta star transformer with its winding diagram.

For example, in a transformer, the vector group is Yd5. Please tell me how do I confirm that the vector group is correct with reference to the connection diagram?

Four groups: Group I - Yy0,Dd0; II - Yy6,Dd6; III - Yd1,Dy1; IV - Yd11,Dy11. Each hour is 360/12 = 30 degree = Yd = Dy. Yd5 means Delta is +5x30 degree with Star.

For Y/y/D/d xx, the "clock position" is xx; e.g., Yd5 = 5:00.

Dear Kailasamvv,

For study of Vector Group, you may consult any text book on Electrical Machine, e.g. Performance and Design of A.C.Machine by M.G. Say.

For determination of Vector Group, you have to carryout voltage test by shorting of one phase of both primary and secondary terminals of transformer, say R-r and injecting low A.C. voltage at primary side and measure voltage between various terminals like B-b. Y-y, B-r, etc. You may also find the method in text book

Thanks,

Manindra
