Cost of Metal in Mexico

10/29/2011 8:52 PM

Hello, I recently moved to Mexico and got out of my manufacturing buisness in Canada. I thought the retired life was gonna be great but I am extremely bored and looking to start up another small plant. I was wondering if anyone knows the if there is a difference in price in raw metal between Mexico and USA. I was also curious to know if there is any national tire manufactures south of the border. Thanks for any advice.

Marty,

Advice? Do your own research.

You say you're bored, and yet, you want us to do your grunt work. Maybe you still think that you're the boss and we work for you? In two seconds I discovered the names and addresses of numerous tire manufacturers in Mexico. I did a simple search. You can, too.

Neither of your questions require more than two minutes to research. I Googled "tire manufacturers in Mexico".

Seems to me that you might be less bored if you did the work yourself, instead of sitting around waiting for the answers for strangers.

Can we get you a cup of coffee while you wait?????????????????????

To answer the question, yes, there are many. Now, go fourth and start that business.

The first answer was not what I expected. lol. I guess I will take it with a grain of salt. Maybe I should clarify a little bit. I was assuming that anyone that answered would have had dealings in Mexico, that is why I specified Mexico. In Mexico all the american corporations that do out of country manufacturing here get their import tax waived on bringing in raw products, but they can not sell those products here. They return to USA and then they resale them to Mexico. I was actually looking for a Mexican (not american like all those you listed) tire manufacturing company. (small trailer tires to be exact). I was not being lazy, I just thought maybe somebody here had some insight, I have done some research and have come back empty handed. Please don't forget the sugar lyn.

Marty,

Since you haven't found any constructive help here, you may want to consider some of these, if you haven't already.

  1. Mexico law Customs
GENERAL - Nafta - Export to Mexico from the US - Import to the US from Mexico
  2. Mexican Import/Export - Buckland Customs Brokers
  3. Import/Export in Mexico : Startup Overseas
  4. Import-export - agents - Mexico : Import-export - agents supplier list ...l
  5. Mexico Import Export Shipping Logistics Cargo - JVV
  6. Thanks for being a good sport.

I have never had the ambition/nerve/smarts/dedication to try to start my own business.

Good luck!

Lyn likes to insult posters when he can't give them the "good answer" they're looking for. Ignore him, I do.

Enjoy Mexico, it's a beautiful country with great people! Try to keep it a secret though, I don't want to see any knuckleheads down there when I retire.

Once again, you contribute absolutely nothing to the conversation at hand.

Have you ever made a meaningful contribution here????

Please enlighten me if you have. I've not seen any.

GA Lyn....... But he may be looking at this as some sort of support group as he's transitioning. Can be rough.

Basic answer is yes. Everything has a 16% value added tax, except food & pharma. Yes there is one local tyre manufacturer. Many metals unless high volumes are bought via distributors. Labour costs are what make things cheaper, as well as promotional incentives. Just a different game!

Marty, Are you not concerned about the drug cartels and government corruption in Mexico. I don't have a clue first hand. I can only go by what I read in the media. I know they blow things out of proportion. Can you set us straight? From what I read in the media, Mexico is on a par with Iraq and Afghanstan and is a dangerous place to be in.

New York was once labelled as the most dangerous city in the world and my attitude (prior to going there) had been tarnished likewise. Today NY remains one of my favourite destinations....as does a small town on the Sea of Cortez' shores, Mexico......but I ain't tellin'....

Point is, between the media and politics the most important stuff is left out.....namely, the people who make a place great.

Mexico gets a bad name in the news because of the border cities (and they are not even that bad) I have been in Guadalajara for 2 years and have a house in Tapalpa. I am younger so I still go out to bars and parties and probably go where I should not go. I have never seen anything bad here. I mean nothing, do not confuse the mexicans from LA and the mexicans that live in Mexico. Usually imigrants are running from something so, all the mexicans that come to USA are trying to get away from something and are not the best people. I actually asked several accountants before I was thinking about getting back into buisness about corruption and extortion because I had concerns (thank you CNN) about getting extorted. It does not exist if you run a clean buisness (do not borrow money from drug dealers). The scare is real and it took along time for me to get it out of my head, my sister still will not come and visit me because of the stigma. I feel safer here then my home city of Saskatoon in Canada. Mexico is a great country, just don't live on the border. I love it here.
