Why care about the body weight of the crane, rather than what it can lift?

Ask the crane manufacturer. How are we supposed to know the design?

You must be buying this crane from some reputed manufacturer. Even if you are buying second hand then also crane's catalogue has the transportation weight. You may also be interested if it has to dismantelled for transportation and its two beams which are specially designed for your usage, will have to be transported separately. Try to go through catalogue if you have it or get it from your supplier.

That may be true, but was not mentioned in the OP. What happens if no crane within this weight limit can lift the desired load, which was not specified?

The thread title says "tones" (one n); the body says "tonnnes" (three n's); I guess it all averages out to two n's (tonnes).

And the reason the question cannot be answered by contacting the equipment's current vendor or keeper directly by telephone is what, please?
