Pin Configuration of Ethernet Cable Connector RJ45

12/08/2011 8:00 AM

Dear all

We are working for a project where we will connect all the 10 Allen Bradley Compact Logic PLCs of a Corrugator machine through a LAN network. The pin configuration during installation of RJ45 connector is as mentioned in below picture. Please assist if it is ok? Any more instruction?

You need to contact your A/B representative or one of their integrator's. They can have a sales engineer assist you as there is more to net working these units then just cable and pin configurations.

Try this: http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=RJ-45_Pinout&id=2EF73B2163BBE962AA3304684E7188A09E37B131&FORM=IQFRBA

Whether to use TIA/EIA-568A or TIA/EIA-568B will depend on the situation. If all of the PLC's will be connected back to a switch that is "auto sensing, auto switching", then it doesn't matter.

the diagram you show tells you to wire it TIA/EIA-568A. But if your plant standard is 'B', no harm done so long as everything is the same. Nearly all of our PLCs are connected to the LAN and I can monitor and make changes on the fly from the shop.

Dears;

Can any one explain me about the difference/usage of following two types of Ethernet connector RJ45 configurations;

1) T-568A Straight-Through Ethernet Cable

2) T-568B Straight-Through Ethernet Cable

The two wiring standards, T568A and T568B vary only in the arrangement of the colored pairs....sources suggest using T568A cabling since T568B is the AT&T standard, but the US Government specifies T568A since it matches USOC cabling for pairs 1 & 2, which allows it to work for 1/2 line phones...". Your choice might be determined by the need to match existing wiring, jacks or personal preference, but you should maintain consistency. I've shown both below for straight through cabling....

Rockwell Software recommends using "managed" switches to reduce the risk of data collisions on your industrial network. Managed switches like the Stratix 6000 are pretty expensive, but they also contain tools to help with troubleshooting network traffic issues.

Here's a list of Ethernet switch recommendations from Allen Bradley's Ethernet/IP Performance Guide (Publication ENET-SO001A-EN-E-November 2007)

For Best Practice Use Switches with the Following Features:

 VLAN

 Full duplex capability on all ports

 Autonegotiation and manually configurable speed/duplex

 IGMP snooping

 Port mirroring

 STP

 QoS

 SNMP
