Beyond Ratchet Mechanism

is there any mechanism which can make a free shaft to rotate in one direction without any reverse play ?

OR start a lawn mower??? Thats how the EMD Turbo Charger over running clutch was described to me many years ago.

Google hydraulic backstop or just backstop. There are also mechanical backstops. This may be what your looking for.

The front loading washing machines I used to work on had a spring wrapped around the axle. This allowed the drum to rotate one way only. I think they were Whirlpools.

Centrifugal isn't it? (on a moped, mini-bike, go-cart, chain saw, etc)
