Dear All

I am asking for the best welding procedure for joining 1 inch diam branch pipe of stainless steel (austanatic), to a Cu-Ni 5 inches diam main pipe.

Does it have to be welded (rhetorical question)? How about a clamp-on branch, a valve and a hot-tapping tool?

Further, why is a stainless steel pipe being connected to a CuNi pipe? If the material in the pipe requires CuNi, isn't stainless steel the poorer relation? Why not go for a CuNi branch pipe?

It all goes back to:

  • What's in the pipe?
  • At what temperature?
  • At what pressure?
