You need to do a little research.

Would you ingest a pesticide?

Sue, I did research & found lots of things & even called the EPA! They put it in infant formula! I don't understand it AT ALL!

I found this (slightly older) study about neurotoxins in infant formulas marketed in the U.S. and Canada. I'm still looking for more data on copper sulfate.

Are you referring to a specific brand of formula?

That's crazy! I don't understand why they are including ANY of these harmful substances in formula!

Don't know if it's relevant, but copper compound is added to pig feed (or was, maybe it's been stopped) as a growth promoter, to such an extent that the manure (to put it delicately) was too high in copper to spread on soil for crops.

No, and with good reason. A quick internet search will explain why you shouldn't intentionally and why (in some cases) you might want to.

I was thinking the same thing! I have found it as an ingredient in infant formula! Why would companies deem this safe?

Copper sulphate should not be taken on its own but is a WHO-accepted food additive (eg- anti-caking agent) in small quantities.

The company is stating that they use it as a nutritional source of copper!

OK, I found this:

Copper Sulfate is also used in Powdered Infant Formula (even the organic ones) to inactivate Enterobacter sakazakii, a known contaminant of powdered infant formula.

I forgot, it's also in the liquid ready-to-feed formula of the same brand & type!

It's still hard to understand why they do such things! In one of those links it said "There are no studies providing a no-effect level."...for the cupric sulfate!

Your question got me a little curious...

How about ingesting Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (used in tile adhesive), Shellac, or Inosinic acid?

These are among this Wiki list of food additives.... yum!

And I thought it was just a can of corn.

I'm glad this made you curious! There are so many weird & questionable additives in our food that companies are allowed (FDA approved) to use & there are few people that ever even consider what they are eating!

Copper

This is necessary for the absorption and utilization of iron in the body. Copper has an important role in the making of red blood cells and nerve fibers. It also works with Vitamin C to form elastin, a chief component of muscle fibers in the body. Copper is involved in hair and skin coloring, sensitivity to taste.

Baby's Only Organic® Formulas: 75 mcg (per 100 calories)

That explains why they include it. The amount is very miniscule also. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I guess you never looked at the label of most multivitamins...

http://www.livestrong.com/article/393198-why-is-cupric-sulfate-in-vitamins/

The human body is a conundrum, too little of something and you have a "deficiency", and too much of the same thing and you have "toxicity"...

As it's highly toxic by ingestion, no thanks!

How much or how little?

There are substances that are therapeutic or beneficial in small amounts, but toxic in larger amounts.

Hysterical Chicken Littles don't help much.

When I was in the army (almost 50 years ago) they added Copper sulphate to our milk to keep us from behaving badly. It did not kill us and did not have much effect either.

Copper Sulphate has been used medically as a fast-acting emetic, but there are possible drawbacks.
