Actually...

It depends on whether the pool is warmer than the ground temperature that surrounds it. If it is, a square pool of the same volume and depth as a round one will have greater surface area in contact with the ground, and therefore will lose heat more rapidly.

(And other combinations of what is warmer than what else. Above ground versus below ground could make a difference, as could air temperature. Aha, the next student who needs a graduation project could thrash out some of these possibilities.)

All other things being equal, solar radiation doesn't care about the shape of the pool, only the amount of surface exposed to the sun.

a round pool might reflect sunlight into the water for a longer time.

Reflect...................from where? Once the solar energy strikes the surface of the water and the wavelength changes the work of heating is essentially done.

if I paint the bottom dark . is this water warmer than if painted white, it seems to me the surface does not stop the heating process
