Cable Rating for 250KW DC Motor

12/24/2011 12:03 PM

We are going to commission DC motor of 150 KW capacity & details are given below,

Drive Incoming:

Incoming supply 415 v ac

Drive outgoing:

Armature Voltage 415 V dc

Armature Current 330 Amps

Field Voltage 110 v dc

Field Current 7.3 Amps

Motor RPM:1000

Please give the proper calculation to find the Cable rating for DC Drive incoming cable & outgoing cable from Drive to motor(Both armature & field)

Thanx

There are many web sites that offer help for people who don't have a clue what they are doing.

I'd advise you to hire an engineer to supervise the commissioning of the motor.

But that's just what I'd do.

This task is not generally done by calculation. Instead, one looks things up in electrical code tables. In this case, the insulation class at or above 415v is 600v; then select conductors by amperage, accounting for ambient temperature and conductor configuration.
