Automatic Charge/Invert Circuit

01/01/2012 2:44 PM

I have an invertor with a built-in charger.I have to manually switch it to "invert" when the power goes and also manually switch to "charge" when the power comes back. what external circuit can i introduce to make it invert dc to ac automatically when there is a power fail? Also how can i make it charge automatically when the power comes back?

It probably will render your "instrument"to a killer. Whatever you might be up to, make sure you have a good transfer switch to isolate it "THEN" from the grid.

A mechanically coupled relay to a transfer switch can do the work.

Er, Guest1947 is actually suggesting that the original poster, Anonymous poster #1, does this.

Operate a DPDT relay with main power and connect its terminal in following configuration.

Pole 1 Invert switch wires - wire 1 on CO and wire 2 on NC

Pole 2 Charge switch wires - wire 1 on CO and wire 2 on NO

The simpler, the better; GA.

But still wander, what kind of inverter is that of the OP, that it doesn't sense and react automatically?

Depending on the power source why not use a UPS to supply the power?

I am not sure if a UPS would be appropriate because this inverter provides power to a TV set, Decoder and four 9W energy saver light bulbs for approx 4hours. Would a UPS provide power for that long?

Yes. Backup time is not on the power rating but the size of Battery/ battery-bank.

If the charger of the UPS unit cannot recharge fully within the period of available power an additional charger.

Otherwise such units are available on demand for the load specified.

TV set using Picture tubes [almost died out in developed countries] were a problem for invertes & UPSs due to high surge current for De-magnetizing, but latest designs has no such problem and draw much lower current.

In my country we are using one or 2 fans [cieling and padestal] additionally, with Picture-tube TV set for more than 2 hour using locally manufactured UPSs.

Mr. Anonymous is really anonymous so don't know if such units can be available in his country.

And what about your contry?
